1kgBramley apple (about 5 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced 1 cm thick)

100gBrown sugar
130gButter cold & cubed
For the Topping (Optional):

Instructions
Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
Prepare the Filling:
In an ovenproof dish, combine the sliced apples, brown sugar, lemon juice, and cinnamon (if using). Mix well to ensure the apples are evenly coated.
Make the Crumble:
In a large mixing bowl, add the flour and cold, cubed butter. Using your fingertips, rub the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles moist breadcrumbs. Shake the bowl lightly—if any large clumps rise to the surface, rub them until they break down.
Stir the brown sugar into the crumble mixture until combined.
Assemble the Crumble:
Evenly spread the crumble mixture over the apple filling, making sure it covers the apples completely.
Add the Topping (Optional):
Sprinkle the rolled oats and additional brown sugar evenly over the top of the crumble.
Bake:
Bake the crumble in the preheated oven for 40 to 45 minutes, or until the top is golden and the apples are soft.
Serve:
Remove from the oven and let the crumble rest for 5 minutes before serving. Serve warm with custard, ice cream, or heavy cream.
